Lockdown Lightbulbs week 1

As we commence the first week of the second lockdown Alan Nevies and his colleagues at northlondonosteopaths would like to suggest, on a weekly basis, some good habits to develop and maintain during this period. There may be specific problems that arise from being indoors (often more sedentary) as we are encouraged to stay at home as much as possible. Alan Nevies and his colleagues have stated on many occasions that enough of the right kind of activity is vital for a well functioning musculo-skeletal system.

So the wisdom from northlondonosteopaths this week includes the following tips:

  • Take regular breaks, preferably water breaks, every 45-60 minutes. It is very important to keep moving and properly hydrated. That might be more challenging when it is not hot and you don’t feel thirsty. Additionally there is no social “water cooler “incentive if you are working from home and and it’s just you and the kitchen sink
  • Regular stretching intervals (same time as water break) stretch upper back, hip flexors.
  • Try to do the above points for 5 minutes every hour.
  • Set up an efficient work station for yourself. This means have a desk with screen at eye level. A desktop is better than a laptop. Avoid working on the couch!
  • Keep your feet on the ground and your legs uncrossed.

Stay safe and well and please call Alan Nevies and his colleagues at northlondonosteopaths if you have any questions.
