Reversing aging without a magic wand

At northlondonosteopaths Alan Nevies and his colleagues are always interested in developing strategies to prevent problems associated with the musculo-skeletal system. These are often connected to the age of the patient, and when we write letters to doctors about the patients that they have referred to us for treatment, name and DOB are at the top of the letter. In an article in the Times UK on 14/3/23, Peta Bee reports that researchers have found that a 20 minute work out a day could slow biological aging and even reverse physical degeneration. Although an elderly cohort (defined as over 60) was the target of this research, with the participants in the study being over 65, the relevance of these findings extended to those in their 40’s.

Where do Alan Nevies and his colleagues at northlondonosteopaths fit in to this?

Firstly, we would encourage our patients to ensure they have a balanced diet that includes enough protein. We are not claiming to be nutritionists but the research suggests that adequate protein is important for bone and muscle strength.

Secondly, we would also show our patients particular exercises to maintain strength and prevent frailty. Frailty is defined as “vulnerability to illness, infection and falls” and is often associated with the elderly.

Thirdly, as part of an overall strategy we are helping the relevant age group of our patient base to come to northlondonosteopaths and see Alan Nevies and his colleagues as prevention rather than cure. This is called being pro-aging in a strong and healthy way.
