Perfect Present Suggestions from the osteopath

Alan Nevies and his colleagues at northlondonosteopaths.co.uk are happy to try to lift the mood of the moment as we wait for (yet) another wave of covid.

As some of our patients and clients might be thinking of buying presents at this time of year, an article in the Daily Telegraph (6/12/21) listed a few to “help loved ones banish back ache.” According to the NHS back pain is the largest cause of disability in the UK with nearly 60 percent of the population experiencing it at some time in their lives. Many people have spent nearly 2 years of working from home which has often exacerbated the problem.
The presents being discussed included a posture brace, heat pad, tens machine, theragun, back and neck massager and acupressure mat.

Alan Nevies and his colleagues at northlondonosteopaths.co.uk are happy to advise any clients about specific products that they may wish to purchase. Posture braces may help poor posture caused by long periods hunching over a screen. Heat pad belts which go in the microwave may help lower back pain, soothing moderate muscle and joint pain, although care must be taken not to burn the skin. Tens machines provide temporary relief for pain anywhere on the back by bombarding the spine with signals which prevent it from sending so many pain signals to the brain. A theragun is a “percussive therapy massager” which pummels the back and reduces muscle soreness and stiffness. It can help with post work out aches. A back and neck massager mimics a professional massage and is a more gentle version of the theragaun. An acupressure mat seemed to mimic acupuncture which has been shown recently to be effective in reducing chronic back pain.

Alan Nevies and his colleagues at northlondonosteopaths will treat and advise any clients who benefit from osteopathic help and are considering purchasing any of the options above.

With best wishes to everyone for a healthy and back pain free approaching year
